Miguel Ángel Rojas

Solo dancer

Born in Granada (1967). He began studying Spanish classical dance with Maite Galán and Paco Romero, flamenco with Mariquilla and popular dance with Pedro Azorín, debuting professionally at the Ballet Español by Maite Galán in 1985. That same year he joined the Rafael Aguilar Company for a production of La vida breve, directed by Cristobal Halffter at the Teatro la Feniche. After participating in the shows De la Alhambra, together with dancer Mariquilla, and El amor brujo at the Sala Duende in Barcelona, in 1986 he joined the Antonio Gades Company as a member of the dance corps in the productions of Carmen, Bodas de sangre, Suite Flamenca and Fuego. Over the years he has combined his work with the Company with productions of Fedra, under the direction of Miguel Narros and with dancer Manuela Vargas; Rango, by Rafael Aguilar, and Sueño Terra, by José Heredia Maya, with choreography by Manolete. In this last production he shared the stage with the current artistic director of the Antonio Gades Company, Stella Arauzo. In 1992 he participates as soloist in a production of Azabache Show, directed by Gerardo Vera for the EXPO 92. He has also been a member of the companies of María Teresa Rojas (Sacromonte) and Juan Andrés Maya (Cautivo and El Nacimiento). Over the course of his artistic career he has combined his membership in companies with regular performances at the most prestigious flamenco “tablaos” in Spain.

He rejoined the Antonio Gades in 2011, playing the role of “Commander” in the production of Fuenteovejuna.
